Adams State edge Saxons, 11-10 3/09/12
AU dominated the fourth quarter outscoring the hosts 5-2, and held a 16-5 advantage in shots, yet was unable to notch the equalizer en route to an 11-10 defeat. For the game, the Saxons (1-3, 0-0 Empire 8) dominated statistically holding advantages in shots (45-24), groundballs (43-42), and face-offs (15-of-24). Senior attackman Stefan Dabkowski (Latham, NY/Shaker (SUNY Delhi)) recorded five points on two goals and three assists to pace AU. Senior midfielder Justin Shultis (Kingston, NY/Kingston (SUNY Delhi)) netted a hat-trick (three goals) and senior midfielder Dave Malave (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) dished out three assists. Sophomore midfielder Derek Green (Pittsburgh, PA/The Kiski School) scored two goals and sophomore attackman Caleb McCaig (Corning, NY/Corning East (Mercyhurst)) had a goal and an assist. Sophomore attackman Brett Carroll (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon-St. Jude) and freshman Nicolas Wood (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) each tallied a goal and junior midfielder Matt Zon (Buffalo, NY/Sweet Home) finished 14-of-23 at the face-off X, while picking up a game-high nine groundballs. Freshman Cody O’Connor (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) played all 60 minutes goal for the Saxons making five saves, while Ronnie Fernando went the distance in goal for Adams State stopping a game-high 16 shots. Jamison Bobo scored two goals and helped on another and Jake Moberly notched a pair of goals to lead the Grizzles (1-2). AU returns to action Saturday, March 17, at 12 p.m., when they take on host Morrisville. |
