Two AU men’s soccer players earn all-region academic honors

ALFRED, NY - Two members of the Alfred University men’s soccer team have earned all-academic honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA).

Junior midfielders Tony Gai (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) and Sam Miller (Kinsman, OH/Badger) were given honorable mention as NSCAA College Division All-East Region Scholars, the NSCAA announced recently.

Criteria for being considered as NSCAA scholar-athletes include having a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher; and starting at least half of his team’s games and being a "significant contributor" to his team.

Gai, an engineering major with a 3.44 GPA, and Miller, a ceramic engineering major with a 4.0 GPA, have been starters each of their three seasons with the Saxons. Gai netted 11 points on four goals and three assists in 2011 and was named an Empire 8 Conference honorable mention all-star. Miller had five points on a goal and three assists. Both served as team captains last season, when Alfred finished with a 7-8-2 record (1-5-0 Empire 8).
