Lady Saxons pound Wells, 16-5 3/21/12
With the victory AU evened its record to 2-2 overall, while the Express fall to 0-3 on the season. The Saxons held a 8-3 advantage heading into intermission behind a five goal unanswered scoring spree. AU’s momentum carried over into the second half as they scored six out of the last seven goals of the contest, en route to a 16-5 win. For the game, AU dominated the Express statistically holding advantages in shots (39-10), and groundballs (30-17), while forcing Wells to commit 16 miscues. Senior attacker Emily Crosby (Fairport, NY/Fairport), junior attacker Ali Garcia (Salt Lake City, UT/Judge Memorial) (one assist, seven groundballs), junior midfielder Devin Fitzgerald (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia), and sophomore midfielder Ashley White (Islip, NY/Islip) each netted three goals for the Saxons. Senior defender Molly Sullivan (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) and sophomore defender Janelle Gallipeau (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) each chipped in with an assist. Senior defender Hannah Scott (Randolph, VT/Randolph Union) picked up four groundballs while causing a game-high three turnovers. Freshman Taylor Tarajos (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) went the distance in goal for the Saxons and made one save, while Bethane Wright made a game-high 10 saves in net for the Express. Courtney Grosser and Sarah Allen each tallied two goals, and Madeline Bass dished out a game-high two assists to pace Wells. AU returns to action Saturday, March 24, at 1 p.m., when they take on visiting Cazenovia. |
