Saxons breeze past Cazenovia, 20-6

ALFRED, NY -Junior attacker Ali Garcia (Salt Lake City, UT/Judge Memorial) established a new career-high in points scoring seven goals and dishing out three assists (10 points) as the Alfred University women’s lacrosse team rolled past visiting Cazenovia College, 20-6, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference matchup.

The Saxons held a decisive 11-3 advantage heading into intermission, converting on 11-of-17 shots taken in the first half of action.

In the second half, AU continued their hot shooting scoring nine goals on 16 shots, as they outscored the visitors 9-3 in the second frame.

For the game, AU buried 61 percent of their shots, and held a 32-19 advantage in groundballs.

Junior midfielder Tracie McGinnity (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili) notched five points on three goals and two assists and junior midfielder Devin Fitzgerald (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) scored three goals for AU. Freshman attacker Kaitlyn Button (Canastota, NY/Cazenovia) netted a pair of goals and senior attacker Emily Crosby (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and sophomore midfielder Ashley White (Islip, NY/Islip) each had a goal and an assist. Senior midfielder Molly Finnerty (Watertown, NY/Watertown), freshman midfielder Haley Nannig (Brooklyn, NY/Westinghouse), and freshman attacker Maria Bentley (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse) each tallied a goal.

Freshman Taylor Tarajos (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) made a game-high eight saves in goal for the Saxons to earn the victory, while Elizabeth Worden made four saves in net for the Wildcats.

Alicia Priest scored two goals and Melissa Rivera, Daejah Werntz, and Christy Foster each tallied goals for Cazenovia.

Alfred returns to action Saturday, March 31, at 4 p.m., when they take on visiting Nazareth College.
