Saxon track and field teams open outdoor season at Lock Haven
LOCK HAVEN, PA - The Alfred University men’s and women’s track and field were strong in opening their outdoor seasons at Lock Haven (PA) University on Saturday, each setting new school records.
Four members of the AU men’s team earned wins and one Saxon relay team was victorious. The Alfred women had one individual win and several other top finishers. There were no team scores.
Earning wins for the Saxon men were: senior Randy Brito (New York, NY/Cardinal Hayes) in the 400-meter hurdles (58.96 seconds); junior Erick Selzo (Shokan, NY/Onteora) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:02.10); junior Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) in the long jump (6.02 meters); and senior Evan Roush (Newport, PA/Newport) in the triple jump (12.81 meters).
The team of junior Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic), Lopez, Brito and senior Richard Scott (Eden, NY/Eden) won the 4X400-meter relay (3:28.37).
Other top performers for the Saxon men were: Scott, second in the 200-meter dash (22.57 seconds) and 400-meter dash (48.90 seconds, a new school record when adjusted for automated timing); junior Shane Stadtmueller (Red Creek, NY/Red Creek), third in the 110-meter hurdles (17.68 seconds); sophomore Isaiah Cassin (Candor, NY/Candor), second in the high jump (1.80 meters); and sophomore Jason Osborne (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), fourth in the shot put (13.46 meters).
The AU men took second and third in the 4X100-meter relay. Lopez, freshman Tyler Robinson (Lockport, NY/Lockport), senior Justin Shardlow (Alfred Station, NY/Alfred-Almond) and Scott were second in 42.98 seconds; Weaver, senior Derek Echevarria (New York, NY/Cardinal Hayes), Stadtmueller and sophomore Mykel Ferguson (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) were third in 45.10 seconds.
The AU women’s team of freshman Patricia Banahene (Rochester, NY/Brighton), sophomore Corine Pettit (Strykersville, NY/Holland), freshman Miasia Hillman (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech) and junior Jordyn Larkins (Rochester, NY/Haley-Allendale-Columbia) took second in the 4X100-meter relay in a school-record 51.74 seconds. Sophomore Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) was the AU women’s team’s lone winner, taking the 110-meter hurdles in 16.61 seconds.
Other top performers for the Alfred women were: sophomore Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield), second in the high jump (1.47 meters) and pole vault 3.20 meters); Larkins, third in the 200-meter dash (28.45 seconds) and fourth in the 100-meter dash (13.72 seconds); Banahene, fourth in the 200-meter dash (28.76 seconds); Hillman, fifth in the 100-meter dash (13.76 seconds); junior Jennifer Miranda (Bronx, NY/Academy of Letters), fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:18.96); junior Erin Johnstone (West Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta), third in the 1,500-meter run (5:22.06); freshman Tracie Forrester (Gainesville, NY/Letchworth), third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (13:08.50); junior Amy Morrissey (Hornell, NY/Hornell), fourth in the 800-meter run (2:34.00); and junior Kelly-Jo Beck (York, NY/York), sophomore Jennifer Kirsch (Penfield, NY/Penfield) and junior Kirstin Cook (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East), third (10.06 meters), fourth (9.95 seconds) and fifth (9.44 meters), respectively, in the shot put.
The team of sophomore Hall, junior Taylor Roberge (Biddeford, ME/Biddeford), freshman Suzette Santiago and sophomore Samantha Wood (Newfield, NY/Newfield) was third in the 4X100-meter relay (1:01.34) and the team of Forrester, Hall, Morrissey and Miranda took third in the 4X400-meter relay (4:26.79).
The AU men’s and women’s teams are in action next on Friday, March 31 at Alfred State College.
