Saxons top Medaille College, 11-8
AU dominated statistically holding advantages in shots (41-21), and groundballs (39-28), while winning 19-of-23 face-offs. At intermission the Saxons held a 4-3 advantage, as they shut the hosts out in the second quarter. In the second half, each team tallied two goals in the third quarter, before AU outscored the Mavericks 5-3 in the final frame to earn the victory.
Sophomore midfielder Derek Green (Pittsburgh, PA/The Kiski School) recorded a game-high five points on three goals and two assists and freshman Nicolas Wood (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) had two goals and two assists to lead AU. Senior attackman Stefan Dabkowski (Latham, NY/Shaker (SUNY Delhi)) and senior midfielder Jay Whyel (Markleysburg, PA/Mercersburg Academy) each tallied two goals. Senior Justin Shultis (Kingston, NY/Kingston (SUNY Delhi CC)) and sophomore midfielder Brendan Sullivan (Stafford, VA/North Stafford/The Kiski School)) each notched a goal and junior defensive midfielder Matt Hodnik (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) chipped in with an assist. Junior midfielder Matt Zon (Buffalo, NY/Sweet Home) finished 19-of-22 on face-offs, while scooping up a game-high 10 groundballs.
Freshman Cody O’Connor (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) made seven saves in net for the Saxons, while Brian Roff stopped a game-high 17 shots in goal for Medaille.
Brock Levick scored a game-high five goals and Joe Kozovski had a goal and two assists to pace Medaille. Jake Engleman and Cameron Ferguson each scored a goal and Caleb Higgins finished with an assist.
Alfred returns to action Saturday, March 31, at 12 p.m., when they take on hosts Stevens Tech to open Empire 8 Conference play.
