Saxons fall to Stevens, 20-4

HOBOKEN, NJ - The Alfred University men’s lacrosse team suffer a 20-4 setback to hosts #9 Stevens Tech, Saturday afternoon, to open Empire 8 Conference play.

Alfred (3-6, 0-1 Empire 8) trailed 10-0 at the half, as the Ducks outshot AU 28-7 in the first half of play. For the game, Stevens outshot AU, 53-24, and picked up 37 groundballs to Alfred’s 22.

Freshman attackman Nicolas Wood (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) scored two goals to pace the Saxons. Senior attackman Stefan Dabkowski (Latham, NY/Shaker (SUNY Delhi) and sophomore attackman Brett Carroll (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon-St. Jude) each netted a goal and sophomore attackman Caleb McCaig (Corning, NY/Corning West (Mercyhurst)) and sophomore midfielder Matt Almquist (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon-St. Jude) each chipped in with an assist. Junior defender Jake Spadoni (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) picked up five groundballs and caused a game-high four turnovers.

Freshman Cody O’Connor (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) started in net for the Saxons making six saves in 47:28 of action. Junior Theo Tomczak (Elba, NY/Elba) played 7:30 in goal making one save, and sophomore Tyler Beyor (Carthage, NY/Carthage (Regis College)) played 5:02 in net and was not called upon to make a save.

Eric Yano played all 60 minutes in goal for the Ducks (9-1, 1-0 Empire 8) and made seven saves. Kevin Rose, Taylor Brown, and Harry Dorne (one assist) each scored four goals to lead Stevens.

Alfred is in action next on Wednesday, April 4, at 4 p.m. vs. Ithaca.
