Saxon women take first place, men third at Alfred State outdoor invitational

ALFRED, NY - The Alfred University women’s outdoor track and field team claimed first place in a four-team invitational meet hosted by Alfred State College Tuesday afternoon. The Saxon men’s took third place.

Sophomore Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) led the AU women’s team, winning the 100-meter hurdles (16.20 seconds) while taking second in the triple jump (9.70 meters) and third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:13.23). Senior Rich Scott (Eden, NY/Eden) paced the Saxon men’s team with wins in the 200-meter dash (22.53 seconds) and 400-meter dash (49.50 seconds).

Also winning events for the Alfred women were freshman Tracie Forrester (Gainesville, NY/Letchworth), in the 400-meter hurdles (1:11.31); sophomore Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield), in the pole vault (3.30 meters); sophomore Corine Pettit (Strykersville, NY/Holland), in the triple jump (10.03 meters); sophomore Jennifer Kirsch (Penfield, NY/Penfield), in the discus (30.80 meters); and junior Kelly-Jo Beck (York, NY/York), in the javelin (22.40 meters).

Other top performances for the AU women included: freshman Miasia Hilliman (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech), second in the 100-meter dash (13.34 seconds); junior Jordyn Larkins (Rochester, NY/Harley-Allendale-Columbia), seconds in the 200-meter dash (27.64 seconds); junior Amy Morrissey (Hornell, NY/Hornell), second in the 800-meter run (2:31.03); Forrester and senior Elisabeth Phillips-Jones (Watertown, MA/Watertown), second (5:15.30) and third (5:20.90), respectively, in the 1,500-meter run; sophomore Liz De Monte (Melville, NY/Walt Whitman), second in the high jump (1.47 meters); Kirsch, third in the shot put (9.69 metes); senior Kayla Summerville (Fairport, NY/Fairport), second in the hammer throw (29.56 meters).

Larkins, Hillman, freshman Patricia Banahene (Rochester, NY/Brighton) and Pettit won the 4X100-meter relay in 50.76 seconds.

In addition to Scott, three AU men won events. Senior Randy Brito (New York, NY/Cardinal Hayes) won the 400-meter hurdles (57.04 seconds); sophomore Isaiah Cassin (Candor, NY/Candor) won the high jump (1.88 meters); and freshman Tyler Robinson (Lockport, NY/Lockport) won the long jump (6.23 meters) while also taking second in the 100-meter dash (11.72 seconds).

Other top showings by the Alfred men included: junior Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland), third in the 100-meter dash (11.74 seconds) and second in the long jump (6.14 meters); junior Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic), third in the 400-meter dash (51.77 seconds); and senior Ken Noll (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane), third in the 1,500-meter run (4:22.07).

Scott, Weaver, Lopez and Robinson won the 4X100-meter relay in 43.08 seconds.

The AU men’s and women’s teams are in action next on Saturday, April 7, at Muhlenberg (PA) University.
