Hartwick clips Saxons, 12-7
Hartwick’s Erin Doyle notched the first goal on the contest off a feed from Brittany LaVaute to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead with just over a minute played in the first half. AU responded scoring three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead with 17:36 left in the first half. The Hawks’ answered outscoring the Saxons 6-1 over the course of a 17-minute span, to claim a 7-4 lead heading into intermission.
In the second half, Hartwick matched each AU goal with a two-goal run, en route to outscoring the Saxons 5-3 in the second half of action. For the game, AU picked up 21 groundballs to the Hawks’ 19 and Hartwick held a slim 29-28 advantage in shots. AU won nine draw controls and converted on three-of-nine free position shots.
Freshman attacker Kaitlyn Button (Canastota, NY/Cazenovia) netted three goals and helped on another to pace AU. Junior attacker Ali Garcia (Salt Lake City, UT/Judge Memorial) and junior midfielder Devin Fitzgerald (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) each scored two goals and senior defender Molly Sullivan (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) picked up four groundballs and caused two turnovers.
Freshman netminder Taylor Tarajos (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) made eight saves in goal for the Saxons, while Steph Luce had a game-high 12 saves in net for the Hawks.
LaVaute finished with a game-high seven points on three goals and four assists, and Lisa Littleton had three goals and two assists to lead Hartwick (5-4, 1-1 Empire 8).
Alfred (4-4, 0-2 Empire 8) returns to action Saturday, April 7, at 1 p.m., when they take on host Stevens Tech.
