AU women’s lax falls to Stevens, 20-3

HOBOKEN, NJ - The Alfred University women’s lacrosse team fell to hosts Steven Tech 20-3, Saturday afternoon in an Empire 8 Conference showdown.

Stevens outscored AU 11-2 in the first thirty minutes of play and limited the Saxons to one goal in the second half, while scoring nine. For the game, the Ducks held a commanding 34-5 advantage in shots, and picked up 30 groundballs to AU’s 12.

Freshman attacker Kaitlyn Button (Canastota, NY/Cazenovia) notched two goals to lead AU. Junior midfielder Devin Fitzgerald (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) scored a goal and sophomore midfielder Ashley White (Islip, NY/Islip) had an assist.

Freshman Taylor Tarajos (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) stopped a game-high nine shots in net for the Saxons, while Meg Collins and Sarah Prall combined for two saves.

Jenna Scheibling recorded a game-high nine points tallying three goals and dishing out a game-best six helpers and Spenecer Waybright had five goals and three assists to lead the Ducks (7-3, 2-1 Empire 8).

Alfred (4-5, 0-3 Empire 8) returns to action Thursday, April 12, at 4 p.m., when they take on host Oswego.
