AU track and field teams compete at Muhlenberg outdoor invitational

ALLENTOWN, PA - The Alfred University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed Saturday at Muhlenberg College. There were no team scores, but several Saxons turned in solid performances.

Senior Rich Scott (Eden, NY/Eden) led the men’s team with a win in the 400-meter run (49.18 seconds) and also ran on two relays that turned in top-three finishes. Scott teamed with junior Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic), senior Randy Brito (New York, NY/Cardinal Hayes) and freshman Sean Locker (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post West) to take second in the 4X400-meter relay (3:24.02). He and junior Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland), freshman Tyler Robinson (Lockport, NY/Lockport) and Weaver placed third in the 4X100-meter relay (43.22 seconds).

Other top performers for the AU men were: sophomore Isaiah Cassin (Candor, NY/Candor), second in the high jump (1.90 meters); junior Andre McCloud (Bath, NY/Haverling), fourth in the 200-meter dash (22.86 seconds); senior Evan Roush (Newport, PA/Newport), seventh in the triple jump (13.21 meters); and sophomore Cai Huang (Utica, NY), 10th in the high jump (1.75 meters).

Freshman Miasia Hillman (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech) led the AU women with a pair of top-1o finishes. She took third in the 100-meter dash (13.20 seconds) and 10th in the 200-meter dash (28.00 seconds). Junior Lordyn Larkins (Rochester, NY/Harley-Allendale-Columbia) was ninth in the 200-meter dash (27.78 seconds) and 10th in the 100-meter dash (13.43 seconds).

Sophomore Jennifer Kirsch (Penfield, NY/Penfield) and junior Kirsten Cook (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) were fifth (32.74 meters) and sixth (32.55 meters), respectively, in the discus; sophomore Liz DeMonte (Melville, NY/Walt Whitman) was fourth in the high jump (1.52 meters); sophomore Corine Pettit (Strykersville, NY/Holland) was 10th in the triple jump (9.62 meters); and junior Jennifer Miranda (Bronx, NY/Academy of Letters) was ninth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:18.35).

The AU men’s and women’s teams are in action next on Saturday, April 14, at Westminster (PA).
