AU women’s lax falls to Oswego State, 23-8

OSWEGO, NY - The Alfred University women’s lacrosse team dropped a 23-8 decision to hosts Oswego State, Thursday afternoon in a non-conference matchup. Win the loss, the Saxons fall to 4-6 (0- 3 Empire 8) on season, While the Lakers improved to 3-5 overall.

The hosts held a commanding 16-6 advantage after thirty minutes of play. In the second half, AU struggled to find its rhythm on offense netting only two goals, while allowing seven. For the game, Oswego outshot the Saxons 47-21, and picked up 25 groundballs to AU’s 20.

Freshman attacker Kaitlyn Button (Canastota, NY/Cazenovia) had two goals and two assists and junior midfielder Devin Fitzgerald (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia and sophomore midfielder Ashley White (Islip, NY/Islip) each scored two goals to lead AU. Senior midfielder Molly Finnerty (Watertown, NY/Watertown) and junior midfielder Tracie McGinnity (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) each chipped in with a goal.

Freshman Taylor Tarajos (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) stopped a game-high 15 shots in net for the Saxons, while Ashlee Engel and Nicole Nalle combined for 11 saves, making five and four respectively.

Erin Cummings (seven goals, three assists) and Rachael Raffa (five goals, three assists) combined for 18 points to pace the Lakers.

Alfred (4-56 0-3 Empire 8) returns to action Saturday, April 14, at 1 p.m., when they take on host St. John Fisher in E8 action.
