Saxons fall at Fisher, 21-3

PITTSFORD, NY-The Alfred University women’s lacrosse team was defeated by hosts St. John Fisher College 21-3, Saturday afternoon, in Empire 8 Conference play.

The Cardinals held a 15-2 advantage after the first half off play. In the second half AU was unable to gain any momentum on offense, netting only one goal, while allowing six second half strikes from St. John Fisher. For the game, the Cardinals held a 38-5 advantage in shots and picked up 28 groundballs to AU’s 13.

Freshman attacker Kaitlyn Button (Canastota, NY/Cazenovia) scored two goals and sophomore midfielder Ashley White (Islip, NY/Islip) had one goal to pace the Saxons (4-7, 0-4 Empire 8).

Freshman Taylor Tarajos (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) made a game-high eight saves in net for the Saxons.

Taylor Hughes (one assist) and Melissa Leonhard each scored three goals to lead St. John Fisher (8-4, 3-1 Empire 8). Caroline Trpcevki started in net for the Cardinals and made two saves in 30 minutes of action. Molly Naylon played the second half and allowed one goal

Alfred returns to action Saturday, April 21, at 11 a.m., against visiting Utica College.
