AU track and field teams compete at Westminster Outdoor Invitational
NEW WILMINGTON, PA - The Alfred University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed Saturday at the Westminster Outdoor Invitational. The Saxon men took fifth place out of 14 teams competing and the AU women were sixth of 13 teams competing.
Senior Rich Scott (Eden, NY/Eden) and junior Andre McCloud (Bath, NY/Haverling) each won individual events for the Alfred men’s team. Scott won the 400-meter dash in 49.10 seconds and McCloud took the 100-meter dash in 11.38 seconds. Scott also teamed with junior Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland), senior Randy Brito (New York, NY/Cardinal Hayes) and junior Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) to win the 4X100-meter relay (43.01 seconds).
Other top performers for the AU men were: Lopez and freshman Tyler Robinson (Lockport, NY/Lockport), sixth (11.57 seconds) and seventh (11.58), respectively, in the 100-meter dash, and seventh (5.98 meters) and third (6.17 meters), respectively, in the long jump; senior Justin Shardlow (Alfred Station, NY/Alfred-Almond), seventh in the 200-meter dash (23.85 seconds); Weaver, sixth in the 400-meter dash (51.56 seconds); senior Ken Noll (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane), third in the 5,000-meter run (15:52.79); junior Shane Stadtmueller (Red Creek, NY/Red Creek), fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (18.34 seconds); Brito, third in the 400-meter hurdles (57.57 seconds); sophomores Isaiah Cassin (Candor, NY/Candor), Mykel Ferguson (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) and Cai Huang (Utica, NY), third (1.88 meters), eighth (1.68 meters) and 10th (1.68 meters), respectively, in the high jump; and sophomore Jeremy Franclement (Perry, NY/Perry), ninth in the pole vault (3.36 meters).
The team of senior Derek Echevarria (New York, NY/Cardinal Hayes), Robinson, Shardlow and McCloud were fifth in the 4X100-meter relay.
Senior Elisabeth Phillips-Jones (Watertown, MA/Watertown) and sophomore Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) each placed in the top six in two events to pace the AU women. Phillips-Jones was fourth in both the 800-meter run (2:28.57) and 1,500-meter run (5:07.84) while Hall was second in the 100-meter hurdles (16.42 seconds) and sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:12.87).
Freshmen Patricia Banahene (Rochester, NY/Brighton) and Miasia Hillman (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech), sophomore Corine Pettit (Strykersville, NY/Holland) and junior Jordyn Larkins (Rochester, NY/Harley-Allendale-Columbia) were second in the 4X100-meter relay (50.36 seconds) and juniors Amy Morrissey (Hornell, NY/Hornell) and Jennifer Miranda (Bronx, NY/Academy of Letters), Hall and freshman Tracie Forrester (Gainesville, NY/Letchworth) were third in the 4X400-meter relay (4:22.01).
Other top performers for the Saxon women were: Larkins, sixth in the 100-meter dash (13.42 seconds) and seventh in the 200-meter dash (28.02 seconds); Banahene, 10th in the 100-meter dash (13.74 seconds); Hillman, eighth in the 200-meter dash (28.12 seconds); Morrissey, eighth in the 1,500-meter run (5:17.89); Forrester, seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:29.90); Pettit, ninth in the long jump (4.53 meters) and 10th in the triple jump (9.38 meters); sophomore Jennifer Kirsch (Penfield, NY/Penfield), 10th in the shot put (9.96 meters) and ninth in the discus (31.31 meters); and junior Kelly-Jo Beck (York, NY/York), eighth in the discus (32.44 meters).
The AU men’s and women’s teams are in action next on Saturday, April 21, at Empire 8 Conference championships, hosted by Ithaca College.
