Saxons' Arguello, softball team ranked nationally in hitting

ALFRED, NY -- The Alfred University softball team is ranked second nationally in batting average, while the Saxons' Stephanie Arguello (Placentia, CA/Vista del Lago) is ranked in the top 15 in the country in hitting.

In the most recent statistical report for Division III teams issued by the NCAA - through games played Sunday, April 15 - the Saxons rank second in the country with a .385 team batting average (319 hits in 829 at-bats). Alfred ranks only behind Neumann College (.392).

Arguello, a sophomore infielder, ranks 14th in the country in batting with a .522 average (47 for 90). She leads the teams in hits and is tied for the team lead in runs with 31.

Alfred is 24-8 overall, with a 5-1 record in the Empire 8 Conference. The Saxons play a pair of Empire 8 doubleheaders this weekend: Saturday, April 21, at Ithaca and Sunday, April 22, at Utica. Both twinbills start at 1 p.m.
