AU men fourth, women fifth at Empire 8 outdoor track and field championships

ITHACA, NY - The Alfred University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed Saturday at the Empire 8 Conference championship meet, hosted by Ithaca College. The Alfred men finished fourth of six teams competing and the AU women were fifth.

Senior Rich Scott (Eden, NY/Eden) led the AU men with wins in the 200-meter dash (22.40 seconds) and 400-meter dash (49.29). He also ran on the winning 4X400-meter relay (3:27.19) with junior Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic), freshman Sean Locker (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post West) and senior Randy Brito (New York, NY/Cardinal Hayes).

Sophomore Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) earned with AU women’s team’s only win, taking first in the pole vault (3.25 meters). Graudons also took third in the high jump (1.48 meters).

Also scoring points for the AU men were: freshman Tyler Robinson (Lockport, NY/Locport), fifth in the 100-meter dash (11.60 seconds); junior Andre McCloud (Bath, NY/Haverling), third in the 200-meter dash (22.86 seconds); Weaver, fifth in the 400-meters (51.14 seconds); Brito, fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (58.36 seconds); sophomore Isaiah Cassin (Candor, NY/Candor), second in the high jump (1.83 meters; senior Evan Roush (Newport, PA/Newport), third in the triple jump (12.97 meters); and freshman Lucas Marshall (Windsor, NY/Windsor), fourth in the shot put (11.69 meters).

The team of junior Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland), Robinson, Weaver and McCloud placed second in the 4X100-meter relay (43.67).

In addition to Graudons, also scoring points for the AU women were: sophomore Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island), fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.55 seconds); senior Elisabeth Phillips-Jones (Watertown, MA/Watertown), third in the 5,000-meter run (19:25.01); freshman Tracie Forrester (Gainesville, NY/Letchworth), fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:30.08); and junior Kelly-Jo Beck (York, NY/York), sixth in the discus (31.79 meters).

The team of freshmen Patricia Banahene (Rochester, NY/Brighton) and Miasia Hillman (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech), sophomore Corrine Pettit (Strykersville, NY/Holland) and junior Jordyn Larkins (Rochester, NY/Harley-Allendale-Columbia) were third in the 4X100-meter relay (51.97 seconds); Forrester, sophomore Samantha Wood (Newfield, NY/Newfield), junior Amy Morrissey (Hornell, NY/Hornell) and Hall were fourth in the 4X400-meter relay (4:22.55).

The AU men’s and women’s teams are in action next on Thursday and Friday, April 26 and 27, at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, PA.
