AU’s Scott named top track athlete at E8 championships, eight Saxons honored

ALFRED, NY - Richard Scott (Eden, NY/Eden), a senior on the Alfred University track and field team, was named Track Athlete of the Meet after winning two individual events and running on two all-conference relays at the Empire 8 Conference outdoor championship meet, held Saturday at Ithaca College.

Scott was among seven members of the AU men’s team to earn Empire 8 all-conference honors. One member of the Saxon women’s team was named a conference all-star as well. The AU men placed fourth at the championships and the Alfred women were fifth.

Scott won the 200-meter dash (22.40 seconds) and 400-meter dash (49.29 seconds, ECAC qualifying) and was named a First Team conference all-star in those two events. Scott, with three teammates - junior Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic), freshman Sean Locker (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post West) and senior Randy Brito (New York, NY/Cardinal Hayes) - earned First Team honors for winning the 4X400-meter relay (3:27.19, ECAC qualifying).

Junior Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland), freshman Tyler Robinson (Lockport, NY/Lockport), Weaver and junior Andre McCloud (Bath, NY/Haverling) earned Second Team all-conference honors in the 4X100-meter relay (43.67 seconds, ECAC qualifying).

Sophomore Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) was the lone all-conference selection on the AU women’s team. She won First Team honors after defending her conference title in the pole vault (3.25 meters, ECAC qualifying).

The AU men’s and women’s teams are in action next on Thursday and Friday, April 26 and 27), at the OPenn Relays in Philadelphia, PA.
