Symphonic Band to play Friday night concert in Miller Theater

The Division of Performing Arts presents the Alfred University Symphonic Band in concert on Friday, April 27 at 8 p.m. in the Miller Theater, Miller Theater Performing Arts Center. The event is open to the public free of charge.

The program will include "Jungle Dance" by Brian Balmages, "Russian Sailors’ Dance" by Gliere, "Dusk" by Steven Bryant, "First Suite in E-flat for Military Band" by Gustav Holst, "Hobbits" from "Lord of the Rings Symphony" by Johan de Meij, "Ammerland" by Jacob de Haan, and "Vesuvius" by Frank Ticheli.

Directed by Christopher Foster, assistant professor of music and director of bands, the student program will also feature two AU professors, Vicki Eaklor and Otto Muller, drumming away in the percussion section.

Foster holds bachelor of music education and master of music degrees from the University of Nevada-Reno, and a doctor of musical arts degree in trumpet performance and wind conducting from the University of North Texas (UNT)-Denton.
