Saxons' Arguello, softball team remain among tops in nation in hitting

ALFRED, NY -- The Alfred University softball team remains ranked second nationally in batting average, while the Saxons' Stephanie Arguello (Placentia, CA/Vista del Lago) has moved into the top five in the country in hitting.

In the most recent statistical report for Division III teams issued by the NCAA - through games played Sunday, April 22 - the Saxons rank second in the country with a .390 team batting average (372 hits in 955 at-bats). Alfred ranks behind only Neumann College (.399).

Arguello, a sophomore infielder, ranks fourth in the country in batting with a .522 average (47 for 90). She leads the teams in hits and is tied for the team lead in runs with 31. She ranked 14th in the nation in the previous rankings, issued April 16.

Alfred is 24-8 overall, with a 5-1 record in the Empire 8 Conference entering today’s doubleheader at Empire 8 rival Ithaca. The Saxons play a pair of Empire 8 doubleheaders this weekend: Saturday, April 21, at Utica and Sunday, April 29, at home against Stevens. Both twinbills start at 1 p.m.
