Lady Saxons drop season finale, 17-8

ELMIRA, NY - The Alfred University women’s lacrosse team fell to host Elmira College, 17-8, Saturday afternoon in the Saxons season finale.

Sophomore midfielder Ashley White (Islip, NY/Islip) found the back of the net three times in the first thirty minutes of action as AU took a 7-6 lead into intermission.

The Soaring Eagles open the second half of action scoring 10 unanswered goals to take a 16-7 advantage with 12:14 remaining in the contest. White snapped the Saxons scoring drought as she scored her fourth goal of the contest with 9:44 remaining. Elmira’s Lindsay Mitchell tacked on a goal for the Soaring Eagles to round out the scoring.

For the game, Elmira held a 41-21 advantage in shots, including a commanding 26-5 in the second half. The Soaring Eagles picked up 52 groundballs to AU’s 34.

Junior midfielder Devin Fitzgerald (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) and freshman attacker Kaityn Button (Canastota, NY/Cazenovia) each scored two goals for AU (4-10, 0-7 Empire 8).

Freshman Taylor Tarajos (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) stopped a game-high 14 shots in net for Alfred, while MaryKate Gellerman made eight stops in goal for Elmira.

Mitchell finished with a game-high seven points on five goals and two assists and Meghan Pass scored four goals to lead the Soaring Eagles (8-8, 2-5 Empire 8).
