AU outdoor track and field teams finish first day’s competition at ECACs

TROY, NY - The Alfred University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed Thursday in the first day of action at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) outdoor championships, being held over two days (Thursday and Friday, May 17 and 18) at RPI.

Neither the AU men nor women scored in the meet’s first day, but several Saxons competed and turned in solid performances.

On the women’s side, AU sophomore Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) placed 11th in the pole vault (3.40 meters) and freshman Miasia Hillman (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech) was 21st in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash (12.88 seconds).

Sophomore Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) completed the first four events of the women’s heptathlon Thursday. Twelve athletes are competing in the heptathlon and Hall was fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.98 seconds); 12th in the high jump (1.33 meters); ninth in the shot put (8.15 meters); and 11th in the 200-meter dash (28.11 seconds). The heptathlon concludes today with the long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run).

The AU men’s teams of senior Randy Brito (New York, NY/Cardinal Hayes), freshman Nolan Rummel (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park), junior Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) and senior Rich Scott (Eden, NY/Eden) took 21st in the 4X400-meter relay (3:25.02).

The championships conclude today. Scott will compete in the men’s 200-meter and 400-meter dash, and sophomore Isaiah Cassin (Candor, NY/Candor) will compete in the men’s high jump. The team of senior Justin Shardlow (Alfred Station, NY/Alfred-Almond), junior Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland), freshman Tyler Robinson (Lockport, NY/Lockport) and Weaver will compete in the men’s 4X100-meter relay, with junior Shane Stadtmueller (Red Creek, NY/Red Creek) serving as an alternate.

The AU women have no competitors in individual events Friday. Junior Jordyn Larkins (Rochester, NY/Harley-Allendale-Columbia), Hillman, freshman Patricia Banahene (Rochester, NY/Brighton) and sophomore Corine Pettit (Strykersville, NY/Holland) will compete in the 4X100-meter relay; and junior Erin Johnstone (West Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta), senior Elisabeth Phillips-Jones (Watertown, MA/Watertown), junior Amy Morrissey (Hornell, NY/Hornell) and freshman Tracie Forrester (Gainesville, NY/Letchworth) will compete in the 4X800-meter relay.
