Alfred University will offer two equestrian day camps this summer for riders ages 8-16. A June 25-28 camp will provide English and Western instruction. A July 23-26 camp will provide only Western instruction.

Deadline for registration is Friday, June 15 and Friday, July13, respectively. The completed enrollment form and $350 camp fee should be sent to the Office of Summer Programs, Alfred University, 1 Saxon Drive, Alfred, NY, 14802. Additional information and the registration form can be found at:

Each session of camp will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will be held at the University’s Bromeley-Daggett Equestrian Center at Maris Cuneo Park. The facility includes classrooms, viewing areas, 50 stalls, an indoor arena, and two outdoor arenas.

The camps are designed to give both experienced and inexperienced riders an opportunity to advance and define their personal riding goals. Campers are assigned a horse to ride during the week and provide hands-on care for. They may bring their own horse to camp.

Nancy Kohler, director of the Alfred University Equestrian Program, will be the camp director this summer. She brings more than 30 years of training riders and horses to her role as camp director. For more camp information, contract her via email at or at 607-587-9012.

Each camper will have two sessions of riding, participate in recreational activities and learn stable management skills each day. A horse show will be held at the end of the day on Thursday for campers to demonstrate the skills they learned during the week.

Campers are responsible for their own lunch. Refreshments, snacks, and a kitchen area will be available.
