University opens Stull Observatory to public on Thursday nights
Alfred University’s Stull Observatory will be open to the public on Thursday evenings from 10 p.m. to midnight this summer through July, free of charge. At these open houses, student astronomers will demonstrate the use of one of the observatory’s telescopes. Professor of physics and Stull Observatory Director Dr. David Toot says clear weather should give the public a look at astral bodies like the Moon, planets, nebulae, galaxies and more. Dates of the observatory open houses, weather permitting, are scheduled as follows: May 31, June 7, June 14, June 21, June 28, July 5, July 12, July 19 and July 26. Reservations are not required, but large groups are asked to call 607-871-2208 between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on weekdays to coordinate timing.
