Alumnus’s ceramic work exhibited at Charlotte museum
Herb Cohen’s ’52, ’56 first solo exhibition, titled “Sophisticated Surface at the Mint Museum Randolph,” is on display at the Mint Museum RANDOLPH in Charlotte, NC until Jan. 6, 2013.
The exhibit traces Cohen’s seven-decade-long career, from his first manipulations of clay at the Henry Street Settlement in the 1940s to his more current sculptural explorations. Since moving to Charlotte in 1958, Cohen became active within the museum as a volunteer and as exhibitions director. He also began the museum’s collection of ceramic art. The exhibit pays tribute to Cohen’s service to North Carolina pottery and the Mint Museum.
The Mint Museum Randolph is open Tuesdays 10 a.m.-9 p.m., Wednesdays-Saturdays 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sundays 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Tickets for adults are $10; for students and seniors, $8; and $5 for children 5-17.
