AU women’s tennis team honored for academic excellence

ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University women’s tennis team has been cited by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for excellence in the classroom.

The fall 2011 women’s team was named an ITA All-Academic Team for the 2011-12 academic year. In addition, six members of the team were honored individually as ITA Scholar Athletes.

To earn All-Academic status, a team must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher. Scholar athletes are varsity letterwinning team member who have a GPA of at least 3.50.

Members of the 2011 AU women’s tennis team named ITA Scholar Athletes were: junior Melissa Boyer (Bloomfield, MI/Lahser), sophomore Renee Duquette (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili), freshman Brennan Ferguson (Destrechan, LA/Ursuline), junior Catherine Spencer (Homer, NY/Homer), junior Rebecca Switzer (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse), and senior Shannon Tovey (Chester, CT/Valley Regional).
