Alfred University appoints new women’s volleyball coach
ALFRED, NY — Alfred University announces the appointment of Elaina Braun as the Saxons’ new women’s volleyball coach.
Braun, a former collegiate player at Alfred State College and St. John Fisher College, will lead an AU team that returns five of six starters and several other letterwinners. With only one senior lost from last season, the Saxons will look to improve on their 8-17 record (1-6 Empire 8) from 2011.
She comes to AU from the Crossroads Volleyball Club, a Rochester-based under-14 club team. Braun coached there from November 2010 to May 2011, leaving to coach the Waterloo (NY) High School junior varsity team for the fall 2011 season. She returned to Crossroads Volleyball Club, coaching from November 2011 until her appointment at AU this summer. Her previous coaching experience includes assisting with the under-16 Xtreme Volleyball Club team in Bloomfield, NY, and also as an instructor at the Waterloo Recreational Department volleyball camp.
Braun enjoyed a solid collegiate playing career at Alfred State and St. John Fisher. A 2008 graduate of Alfred State, where she earned an associate’s degree, she played two seasons (2006 and 2007) as a setter for the Pioneers. She helped lead the team a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region III title and a berth in the junior college national championship tournament (fifth-place national finish) in 2007, when she was named a First Team NJCAA All-American.
After graduating from Alfred State, Braun played two seasons (2008 and 2009) at St. John Fisher, where she was a team captain. She graduated from St. John Fisher in 2010 with bachelor’s degrees in childhood education and special education.
