First-year art students invite the community to exhibition
The School of Art and Design at Alfred University invites community members to view “HUNT,” an exhibit of work by first-year students completed during their first week of college classes. The free exhibit will open at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, in the Robert C. Turner Gallery, Harder Hall.
HUNT is the 2012 First Week project, a way to bring new students together and introduce them to each other, the program, and the community of Alfred. International artists Joanna Wright and Alex Ashcroft designed HUNT and worked with the students on the week-long project.
Each student was asked to bring to campus a special object and a map from their home. They used these to learn more about each other and how place influences us all. Together they created guides to each other and a sonic postcard of Alfred.
For the final component of the week’s work, the students created treasure hunts which together with the other works created during the week will be displayed in the Turner Gallery.
