Saxons even record with 2-0 win in Oswego Tournament consolation match
OSWEGO, NY – The Alfred University men’s soccer bounced back from a season-opening defeat to shut out SUNY Old Westbury, 2-0, in the consolation match of the SUNY Oswego Tournament Saturday afternoon.
AU (1-1-0) opened the scoring 15:29 into the contest when sophomore midfielder Nicholas Milliman (Randolph, NY/Randolph) scored on an assist from junior defender Rigel Johnson (Little Valley, NY/Cattaraugus-Little Valley). The Saxons struck again just 24 seconds later, when junior forward Jeffrey Thomas (Canandaigua,NY/Canandaigua) scored an unassisted goal.
Freshmen William Badger (Dannemora, NY/Saranac) and Mathew Unick (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) split time in goal for Alfred. Bader played the first falf and made two saves; Unick played the second and half and stopped one shot. Marcelo Guardado made nine saves in goal of Old Westbury.
AU is in action next on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 4 p.m. at Pitt-Bradford.
