AU edges Pitt-Bradford, 1-0
BRADFORD, PA- The Alfred University men’s soccer downed Pitt-Bradford, 1-0, on the road Wednesday afternoon.
The Saxons opened the first half taking control of the game as they outshot the Panthers 12-5 and held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks. Each team would head into intermission scoreless.
AU (2-1-0, 0-0-0 Empire 8) continued its dominance in the second half outshooting Pitt-Bradford 14-1, and still holding a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks. The Saxons would find the net in the 72nd minute as junior forward Jeffery Thomas (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) received a cross from senior forward Frankie Mannino (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) to bury it in the back of the net. For the game, Alfred boasted 26 shots to Pitt-Bradford’s six, and six corner kicks to their one.
Junior goalies Jacob Bird (Auburn, NY/Skaneateles) and Samuel Guy (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) split the two halves evenly to earn a combined shutout. Adam Forster went the distance for the full course of the game for Pitt-Bradford (1-2-0), earning 10 saves.
Alfred returns to action Saturday, Sept. 8, at 4 p.m. for their home opener at Merrill Field when they take on visiting Marywood.
