ALFRED,NY-  The AU women’s soccer team beat visiting Hilbert, 2-0, Saturday evening at Merrill field.

The first half of play belonged to the Lady Saxons as they outshot Hilbert (1-3-0) six to one, and held a three to zero advantage in corner kicks.  An early goal (four minutes) came from freshman midfielder Dawn Torlish (Farmington, NY/Victor) off a finely placed pass from freshman attacker Mary Hendee (Almond, NY/Alfred-Almond).  AU went into halftime on top, 1-0.

AU (3-1-0, 0-0-0 Empire 8) continued the fine play in the second half as sophomore Rachael Williams (Penfield, NY/Penfield) netted the final goal of the contest, at the 58 minute mark.

Junior Samijo Scheer (Corning, NY/East) minded net for the full 90 minutes of play for the Saxons, scooping up four saves to earn the shutout.

AU will take on Houghton Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. in their first conference matchup of the season.
