AU women’s volleyball team falls to Oswego, Mt. St. Mary at New Paltz Tournament

NEW PALTZ, NY – Oswego State and Mt. St. Mary defeated the Alfred University volleyball team, both times by 3-0 scores, Saturday at the SUNY New Paltz Invitational Tournament.

Against Oswego, Alfred (1-7) lost by scores of 25-18, 25-20 and 25-23. Junior Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) led the Saxons with 11 kills, eight digs and a block. Juniors Paige Jensen (Weiser, ID/Weiser) and Samantha Wood (Newfield, NY/Newfield) each had four kills, with Jensen adding seven digs and Wood a pair of blocks. Junior Janelle Gallipeau (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) chipped in with 12 assists.

In the match against Mt. St. Mary, AU lost 25-19, 25-16, 27-25. Jensen had 11 kills, seven digs, two service aces and a pair of blocks; Hall had seven kills and eight digs; Wood had three blocks; junior Brittany Anselment (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) had 10 digs; and Gallipeau and junior Tara Barone (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) each had 11 assists.

AU is in action next on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. at home against Hilbert.
