AU women's soccer topples SUNY Maritime, 13-0

ALFRED,NY-  The AU women’s soccer team throttled visiting SUNY Maritime, 13-0, Saturday afternoon at Merrill field.

For the game, the Lady Saxons dominated in all aspects of the game, holding an advantage in shots (30-2) and corner kicks (7-2).

AU (4-2-0, 0-1-0 Empire 8) found the net seven times in the first half and six in the second, with six different goal scorers.  Junior forward Sarah Borrhello (Columbia Station, OH/Columbia) and freshman Dawn Torlish (Farmington, NY/Victor) (one assist) both posted a hat trick for AU.  Sophomore forward Rachael Williams (Penfield, NY/Penfield) (two assists), sophomore forward Emily Heslop (Aurora, NY/Southern Cayuga), and freshman forward Mary Hendee (Almond, NY/Alfred-Almond) (one assist) all netted two goals apiece.  Junior midfielder Shealyn McKee (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) scored a goal, and senior midfielder Devin Fitzgerald (Rochester, NY/Greece-Olympia) chipped in with two assists.

Senior goalie Ashley Frazell (Newton, NJ/Newton) played the first half in net while junior goalie Samijo Scheer (Corning, NY/East) finished the match, playing the second half in net for the combined shutout.

Alfred resumes conference play against Elmira College Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m.
