AU Women’s Center to host founder/CEO of Global Action Women
The Alfred University Women’s Leadership Center (WLC) will host Linda Rivero, founder and CEO of Global Action Women, Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 5:30 p.m. in Nevins Theater, Powell Campus Center. The program is open to the public free of charge.
Rivero’s presentation, “Did the Dalai Lama Mean YOU? Why You Are Positioned to Save the World... and How You Can Do It” will focus on the importance and meaning of being a strong and successful woman and what is required to make an impact on society.
Rivero is also president and founder of Women Travel for Peace, a non-profit company focused on inspiring travelers to see the world in order to inform and educate them through various developing cultural experiences.
She earned bachelor’s degrees in both Latin American literature and Italian language from New York University and a master’s degree in bilingual counseling from New Mexico State University. She taught Spanish and Italian in the State University of New York system and at Iona College, respectfully.
The WLC builds on Alfred University’s heritage as the first truly coeducational institution in the nation. The Women of Influence program brings powerful female role models to campus, providing opportunities for inspiration and guidance through lectures and small group discussions. Past Speakers have included a NYS Supreme Court judge, a dean of a medical college, and an Albany lobbyist.
Founded in 1836, Alfred University became the first coeducational institution in New York State and the second in the nation. About 2,000 full-time undergraduate and 400 graduate students work and live in 52 buildings on a scenic 232-acre hillside campus adjoining the village of Alfred.
The University is comprised of the privately endowed College of Professional Studies, housing the School of Business, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, as well as the state-sponsored College of Ceramics housing the Kazuo Inamori School of Engineering and the School of Art and Design. Bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees are awarded.
