Women's swimming and diving team tops William Smith
ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women’s swimming and diving earned its first dual meet win of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating visiting William Smith, 129-111.
Freshman Carly Watson (Hyde Park, NY/FDR), sophomore Christina Behr (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) and junior Cassie Brown (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) each won two individual events as the Saxons improved to 1-3 on the season. Watson won the 200 freestyle (2:04.78) and 200 butterfly (2:20.94); Behr won the 200 individual medley (2:21.75) and 100 free (56.69); and Brown swept the diving events, taking 1-meter diving with 197.05 points and 3-meter diving with 246.85 points.
Freshman Kelsey McRill (Solon, OH/Solon) won the 50 free (25.49) and was second in the 100 free (56.88); senior Shelby Remington (Gainesville, NY/Letchworth) was first in the 500 freestyle (5:51.13) and second in the 1,000 freestyle (11:52.67). Sophomore Allison Derwallis (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Ludlowe) was second in the 200 backstroke (2:26.54).
The team of Behr, McRill, Watson and junior Paige Citarella (West Islip, NY/West Islip) won the 200 medley relay (1:57.54), while freshmen Emma Gromelski (Clark’s Summit, PA/Abington Heights) and Lauren Brilla (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville), senior Katie Ganley (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) and Citarella were second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:50.23).
The AU men’s and women’s teams compete next together Nov. 30-Dec. 2 at the Ithaca College Invitational.
