AU women’s basketball team hammers Hilbert

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women’s basketball team whipped visiting Hilbert College, 74-48, Saturday afternoon at the McLane Center.


Alfred (2-2) led 41-21 at the half and was never threatened after intermission. AU held the Hawks (2-2) to 20 percent shooting in the second half and 21.4 percent for the game. The Saxons shot 34 percent from the floor but forced 31 Hilbert turnovers while committing only 13 miscues themselves.


Junior guard Rachael Stedman (Hamburg, NY/Springville-Griffith) paced Alfred with a game-high 15 points on six-of-11 shooting with five rebounds. Sophomore guard Harley Cleary (Rochester, NY/Mercy) had 11 points and a game-high six assists and freshman guard Heather Hebert (Hilton, NY/Hilton) had 10 points and eight steals. Junior forward Sarah Federico (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels) pulled down a game-best 10 rebounds for AU.


Jenah Labuski netted 13 points to lead Hilbert. Jessica Jamison had eight points and four rebounds and Sarah Lorusso had five points, three assists and a team-high eight rebounds for the Hawks.


Alfred is in action next on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 5 p.m. at Wells.
