AU swimming and diving teams finish at Ithaca Invitational
ITHACA, NY – The Alfred University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams each finished in 11th place at the Ithaca College Invitational, a three-day meet that concluded Sunday.
The AU men finished with 303.5 points and the Alfred women with 275. Eleven teams competed in the meet, with Cornell winning both the men’s and women’s competitions.
Sophomore David Coombes (Dansville, NY/Dansville) was one of four AU men’s swimmers to score in individual races, taking 19th in the 100-yard freestyle (48.59 seconds). The top 24 finishers in each event score points for their team. Junior Peter Sowinski (Akron, NY/Akron) was 21st in the 100 free (48.86); and freshman Dustyn White (Wrentham, MA/King Philip Regional) and senior Nate Chapman (Hornell, NY/Hornell) were 22nd (17:44.41) and 23rd (17:57.49), respectively, in the 1,650-yard freestyle.
Sophomore Zac Toth (Lockport, NY/Starpoint), Chapman, Coombes and Sowinski took fifth in the 400 free relay (3:13.89).
Senior Shelby Remington (Pike, NY/Letchworth) and sophomore Christina Behr (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) scored in individual events for the Saxon women. Remington was 22nd in the 1,650-yard free (19:55.36) and Behr was 21st in the 100 free (55.67).
The team of freshmen Carly Watson (Hyde Park, NY/FDR) and Kelsey McRill (Solon, OH/Solon), senior Eryn Matich (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) and Behr took 11th in the 400 free relay (3:48.91).
The AU men’s and women’s teams are in action next on Jan. 11 at 1 p.m. at Utica.
