Saxons’ Raplee, Jackson earn East Region honors

ALFRED, NY — Two members of the Alfred University football team have been named regional all-stars., a leading website covering Division III college football, announced its East Region all-star teams Tuesday. AU senior defensive tackle Mike Raplee (Dundee, NY/Dundee) was named to the First Team, while senior free safety Jon Jackson (East Amherst, NY/Bishop Timon-St. Jude) was a Second Team pick.

First Team All-Region picks are considered by for All-American selections. Raplee was an East Region First Team All-Star in 2010 and 2011 and went on to earn All-American honorable mention honors each time. is scheduled to announce its All-American teams on Dec. 14.

 The 2012 Empire 8 Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Raplee anchored a Saxon defense that allowed only 118.8 yards rushing per game. He had a team-leading 72 tackles (20 ½ for loss) with 11 ½ sacks and two forced fumbles. In an Oct. 6 Homecoming win over Ithaca he tallied eight tackles, including 4 ½ sacks.

Raplee completed his AU career as a four-time Empire 8 all-star: he was an honorable mention selection as a freshman and was named to the First Team each of the last three years.

Jackson had 57 tackles (three for loss) to go with a team-leading six interceptions. He also rushed 14 times for 147 yards and two TDs. He is a two-time Empire 8 all-star, earning First Team honors this season and Second Team honors in 2011.

The Saxons finished the 2012 season with a 6-4 record (5-2 Empire 8), ending the campaign with a loss at Springfield in the ECAC Northeast Bowl.
