Men’s Lacrosse knocks off LaRoche, 20-6

PITTSBURGH, PA— The Alfred University men’s lacrosse team claimed their fourth-straight victory over LaRoche College, Saturday afternoon on the road, in a 20-6 decision.

Alfred started the match smothering LaRoche offensively, to head into the half ahead 10-1. Upon the start of the second half, AU built on their lead outscoring LaRoche 10-5 to round out the contest.  Alfred (4-0, 0-0 Empire 8) enjoyed an advantage in shots (60-25) and groundballs (33-26).

Junior midfielder Brendan Sullivan (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) led the offensive charge, scoring a game-high seven goals. Senior midfielder Matt Zon (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home), junior midfielder Derek Green (Pittsburgh, PA/The Kiski School), junior attacker Brett Carroll (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon-St. Jude), and freshman attacker Jeff Bero (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) combined to account for eight goals, netting two goals each.

Junior defender Chris Tauterouff (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) picked up a game-high five groundballs and caused three turnovers for AU.

Sophomore Cody O’Connor (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) minded net for 49 minutes, with six saves, before senior Justin Becker (Conesus, NY/Livonia) and senior Theo Tomczak (Elba, NY/Elba) split the workload the rest of the way.

AU opens Empire 8 play on Wednesday, March 13 against Houghton College.
