AU trustee, alumnus to receive Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Award
Michael Christakis, Alfred University (AU) trustee and a member of the AU Class of 1999, will receive the Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) Leadership Hall of Fame Award during the University’s member induction ceremony, Sunday, April 7. He will also serve as the keynote speaker at the event offering remarks on “ODK: A Century of Leadership.”
Christakis is assistant vice president for Student Success at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Albany. After earning his bachelor’s degree from AU, he continued his education earning a master’s degree in public affairs and policy and a Ph.D. in public administration and policy from the Nelson A. Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy at SUNY Albany.
The Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Hall of Fame Award was developed by the AU ODK Circle (chapter) and the AU University Relations Division to recognize alumni who have graduated over five years ago and whose leadership legacies still show lasting effects on campus.
ODK was founded in 1914 at Washington and Lee University as the national leadership honorary society. It was the first national college honor society to recognize leadership and participation in extracurricular activities; the organization believes exceptional leadership in college should be celebrated and recognized and that outstanding students, faculty, and administrators should meet on a basis of mutual interest and helpfulness. Since its founding, ODK has initiated over 300,000 members.
