AU men fifth, women seventh, at Empire 8 outdoor track and field championships

PITTSFORD, NY – The Alfred University men’s and women’s track and field teams were among seven squads competing Saturday at the Empire 8 Conference outdoor championship meet at Nazareth College. The Alfred men took fifth and the AU women were seventh.

 

Alfred’s men had two individual champions and the Saxons women one. Senior Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) won the long jump (6.69 meters) and freshman Joe Duermeyer (Corfu, NY/Pembroke) took first in the shot put (12.89 meters). Lopez also placed seventh in the 200-meter dash (23.05 seconds). Alfred sophomore Miasia Hillman (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech) was the champion in the women’s 100-meter dash, winning in 12.74 seconds.

 

Alfred’s 4X400-meter relay team of Lopez, senior Randy Brito (New York, NY/Cardinal Hayes), junior Eddie Potter (Lansing, NY/Lansing) and sophomore Nolan Rummel (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) also won an E8 title, finishing first in 3:26.75.

 

Other top-10 performers for the Alfred men were: freshman Gregory Matos (Bronx, NY/English Language Learners, International Support Prep) fourth in the 400-meter dash (51.06) and 10th in the 100-meter dash (11.65); Tchabelino Azimyt (New York, NY/Philip A. Randolf), 10th in the 400 meters (53.51); Rummel and Potter, seventh (2:02.48) and eighth (2:05.52), respectively, in the 800 meters; Brito, fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (58.77); junior Isaiah Cassin (Candor, NY/Candor), third in the high jump (1.85 meters); senior Shane Stadtmueller (Red Creek, NY/Red Creek) and junior Mykel Ferguson (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia), tied for eighth in the high jump (1.75 meters); freshman William Badger (Dannemora, NY/Saranac), seventh in the triple jump (11.72 meters); junior Jason Osborne (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), freshman Philip Caruso (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy), and sophomore Lucas Marshall (Windsor, NY/Windsor), second (12.76 meters), eighth (11.49) and ninth (11.27), respectively, in the shot put; sophomore Greg Pomarico (Liberty, PA/Liberty), second (51.27 meters), sophomore Sean Locker (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post West), third (50.59), Stadtmueller, eighth (41.89) and junior Roberto Hernandez (Bronx, NY/Academy of Letters), 10th (41.39), respectively, in the javelin.

 

Other top-10 performers for the AU women were: senior Jordyn Larkins (Rochester, NY/Harley-Allendale-Columbia), 10th in the 200-meter dash (26.83); sophomore Tracie Forrester (Gainesville, NY/Letchworth), eighth in the 800-meter run (2:29.03); junior Liz DeMonte (Melville, NY/Walt Whitman), 10th in the 100-meter hurdles (19.16); senior Jen Miranda (Bronx, NY/Academy of Letters), ninth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:14.66); junior Corine Pettit (Strykersville, NY/Holland), eighth in the triple jump (10.04 meters); senior Kari Blatz (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon), seventh in the shot put (10.16 meters); senior Kirstin Cook (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East), sixth (30.30 meters), and senior Kelly-Jo Beck (York, NY/York), 10th, respectively, in the discus (27.52); sophomore Alyssa Goot (Cassadaga, NY/Fredonia), eighth (24.56 meters) and junior Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island), 10th (21.62), respectively, in the javelin.

 

Alfred’s men’s and women’s teams are in action next on Saturday, April 27, at the St. John Fisher Invitational.
