AU softball team earns ECAC bid
5/06/13

ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University softball team has earned a berth in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Championship tournament, the ECAC announced Monday.

The Saxons (23-17) are the fifth seed in the eight-team tournament, and will play a quarterfinal game at fourth-seeded Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ, on Thursday, May 9, at 3 p.m.

The losers of the four first-round games are eliminated from the tournament. The winners advance to a weekend of double-elimination play, with the highest remaining seed serving as host. In addition to the Alfred-Centenary matchup, other first-round games played Wednesday include: No. 8 Marywood at No. 1 Alvernia; No. 7 Catholic at No. 2 Frostburg State; and No. 6 Stevenson at No. 3 McDaniel.
