8/16/13

ALFRED, NY – Paul Vecchio, director of athletics at Alfred University, announces that Tony Aquilina has been promoted to the position of assistant athletic director of internal operations.

Aquilina has served as director of athletic facilities and equipment for the AU Department of Athletics since the beginning of the 2012-13 academic year, supervising the maintenance of equipment and uniforms for the University’s varsity athletic teams, training student game day workers staffing home athletic contests, and managing the athletic department facilities. He will continue serving in that role whole taking on a host of new responsibilities as assistant athletic director. His new duties will include scheduling, budgeting and facility planning and upgrades.

“Tony has done a tremendous job since joining our staff last August and has earned this promotion through his selfless efforts on behalf of the Athletic Department,” Vecchio said.
“Everything Tony has worked on since joining us has been done in a first-class manner.”

Vecchio cited Aquilina’s involvement with the Alfred Rugby Club – he has been the club team’s head coach since August 2012. “His work with the AU Rugby club team has aided student retention while fortifying a popular club offering," he commented.

Aquilina earned a Bachelor of Science degree in sport management from SUNY Cortland in 2011 and a Master of Science in sports management from Ithaca College in 2012. He served as a graduate assistant in the Ithaca College/SUNY Cortland Recreational Sports and Fitness Center from 2011-12, and served as football operations manager for the New York Jets training camp during the summer of 2010.
