RIT sweeps AU swimming and diving

   ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were swept by visiting RIT in dual-meet action Friday evening at Lebohner Pool. RIT edged the AU women, 124-119, while the RIT men defeated the Saxon men, 131-106.


   Freshman Dylan Staniszewski (Oakton, VA/Oakton) led the AU women with three individual event wins. She took the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:28.06), the 200-yard free (2:01.05), and the 500-yard free (5:35.14).


   Sophomore Carly Watson (Hyde Park, NY/FDR) won two events, while junior Chrissy Behr (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional), senior Cassie Brown (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) and freshman Kylee Proudfit (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic) each won one.


   Watson won the 200-yard IM (2:18.28) and 100-yard butterfly (1:01.00). Behr won the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.32) and took second in the 50-yard free (25.55); Brown won 3-meter diving (221.55 points) and took second in 1-meter diving (200.40 points); and Proudfit won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.43).


   Behr, Proudfit, Watson and sophomore Kelsey McRill (Solon, OH/Solon) won the 200-yard medley relay (1:55.83).


   The Saxon men’s team got two individual event wins from juniors David Coombes (Dansville, NY/Dansville) and Zac Toth (Lockport, NY/Starpoint), and senior Pete Sowinski (Akron, NY/Akron). Coombes took the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.56) and 100-yard backstroke (55.85); Toth won the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.05) and 100-yard butterfly (55.29); and Sowinski won the 50-yard freestyle (21.81) and 100-yard free (49.04).


   Other top swimmers for AU (1-1) included junior David Luke (Ocala, FL/West Port), second in the 50 free (22.79), and junior Joe Rogers (Dublin, NH), second in the 1,000-yard free (10:45.43) and 500 free (5:09.61).


   The team of Coombes, junior Jeff Rowland (Rochester, NY/Hilton), Toth and Luke won the 200 medley relay (1:41.91), while Luke, freshman Patrick Brown (Olean, NY/Olean), Rogers and Sowinski won the 200 free relay (1:29.06).


   The AU women's team is in action next on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 1 p.m. at William Smith. The AU men and women are in action on Friday, Nov. 15, at 6 p.m. at Fredonia.
