Alfred University education once again listed a 'Best Buy' in Fiske Guide 2015

Once again, Alfred University (AU) has been selected a “Best Buy” by the Fiske Guide to Colleges. The University, which has been included in the publication consistently for more than 15 years, is one of only 21 private, higher education institutions to earn the designation in the 2015 Guide released this week.

For more than 30 years, Fiske Guide to Colleges has chosen a select group of schools, “noted for quality academic offerings and affordable cost,” for its annual “Best Buy” list. Most of the institutions included this year fall into the inexpensive or moderate price category and most have four- or five-star academic ratings.

“Value is about more than low cost.  It is defined by what a student can experience and how much a student can grow because of the Alfred experience,” said University President Dr. Charles M. Edmondson.  “Alfred University deserves this recognition because both its educational and residential programs are intended to enhance the overall talents of any student who is committed to intellectual and personal development.”

His comments were reflected by Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Rick Stephens who noted: “It is gratifying to have Alfred University’s value recognized by the Fiske Guide to Colleges. Students and their families can be confident that AU will deliver the highest quality educational opportunity, while carefully respecting their investment and effort in a university degree.”

Earl Pierce, AU vice president for enrollment management, added “Alfred University continually strives to provide a quality education at an affordable price. Acknowledgement of this success by reputable publications such as Fiske, and others, validates the value of investing in an Alfred education.”

Compiled by former New York Times education editor Edward B. Fiske, the guide takes a “selective, subjective, and systematic look at 300-plus public and private colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, and Great Britain.

The Fiske Guide can be found online and in bookstores. It is also available as an iPad app on iTunes and a Web program at
