AU's Hall appointed to NYSERDA Additive Manufacturing Cmte
Dr. Matt Hall, CACT Director at Alfred University, has been appointed to New York State Energy Research and Development Authority's (NYSERDA's) Additive Manufacturing Steering Committee.
Additive Manufacturing , as envisioned by NYSERDA, could lead the way into the third industrial revolution. NYSERDA hopes to guide the growth and development of that industrial sector here in New York State by means of this committee. It is comprised of representatives from industry, government and academia.
Additive Manufacturing describes technologies that build things by adding layers material. The material could be plastic, metal, or concrete. These processing technologies use modeling computer programs to guide the machine layering the material. These processing technologies encompass 3D printing, rapid prototyping, direct digital manufacturing, layered manufacturing and additive fabrication, according to additivemanufacturing.com
NYSERDA hopes the committee will identify the 'players' in this new field; identify supply chain gaps; educate NYS, NYSERDA and other entities about AM; and position NYS to enable this sector to grow here. The committee is also tasked with identifying market needs and helping manufacturers break into other markets.
