July 9-13 Schedule
9 a.m.-noon: Jr. Engineering 1 - grades 1-3
1-4 p.m.: Elementary Engineering - grades 4-8

July 16-20 Schedule
9 a.m.-noon: Jr. Engineering 2 (new this year) - grades 1-3
1-4 p.m.: Vehicle Engineering (new this year) - grades 4-8

Location: Olin Building, Room 207, Alfred University Campus

Camp Fee: $200/week

Program
This program provides great hands-on learning! Students will creatively build and modify machines applying basic engineering principles and using unique LEGO® kits. This is an integrated science and math class. Students learn a variety of concepts throughout each 5-day program, including:

  • Basic Engineering Principles
  • Simple Machines
  • Gears and Gear Ratios
  • Forces in Motion
  • Problem Solving
  • Communication Skills
Class Descriptions
  • Junior Engineering I - JE1 (grades 1-3): Students will creatively build and modify machines through basic engineering skills using our unique LEGO® kits. Maximum number of students accepted - 26.

  • Junior Engineering 2 - JE2 (grades 1-3): Students will build projects of slightly higher complexity using gears and motors using our unique LEGO® kits. A must for students who enjoyed Jr. Engineering 1 (though JE1 is not required). Maximum number of students accepted - 16.

  • Elementary Engineering - EE (grades 4-8): Students will creatively build and modify machines applying basic engineering principles and using our unique LEGO® kits. This is an integrated science and math class. Maximum number of students accepted - 22.

  • Vehicle Engineering - VE (grades 4-8): Students will build up to 13 different motorized vehicles capped off with a final project using our unique LEGO® kits. Vehicles include everyday vehicles, concept cars, construction machines and more. Maximum number of students accepted - 22.

Instruction
Top quality instruction and learning materials are provided by faculty from All About Learning, Inc., whose classes feature science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) concepts and 21st century educational skills of critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, agility and adaptability, curiosity and imagination.

Schedule
Students attending the morning sessions (grades 1-3) must be dropped off at the classroom each day by 9 am and must be picked up at noon. Students attending the afternoon sessions (grades 4-8) must be dropped off at the classroom by 1 pm, and picked up no later than 4 pm

How to Enroll
Enrollment is limited, so prospective campers are encouraged to enroll as soon as possible. Enrollments will be accpeted on a first-come, first-served basis until each session is full.

Please complete the enrollment form and return by June 22, with your $200/week payment, to: Office of Summer Programs, Alfred University, 1 Saxon Drive, Alfred, NY 14802. Checks should be made payable to Alfred University. Major credit cards are also accepted. (If paying by credit card, feel free to fax enrollment form to us at 607.871.2045.)

Cancellation Policy
Full refunds will be made for cancellations received by 3:30 pm on July 2, 2012. We cannot make refunds to students who cancel after July 1 because instructors, materials, and classroom spaces are arranged based upon the number of students expected and cannot be changed after that date.
