	<title>AU professors to share memories of the '60s during Bergren Forum presentation </title>
	<description>The Alfred University Bergren Forum presents 'Hippies and Radicals in the Vietnam War Era' on Thursday, Feb. 16, featuring AU Professors Tom Peterson and Larry Greil.  The program begins at 12:10 p.m. in Nevins Theater, Powell Campus Center, and is open to the public free of charge.

Peterson and Greil will provide insight on what it was like growing up during the 1960s.  From protest movements to the essence and cultures of the time period, the presentation will focus on each of the professors' unique experiences during the decade.

Peterson, professor of religious studies, also team teaches several studio art courses including 'Body, Time and Movement' and 'Image, Text, and Culture.' 

He earned a master of theoretical studies degree from the Harvard Divinity School and a Ph.D. from Stanford University.

Greil is a professor of sociology and chairman of the Social Sciences Division.  He is currently a part of a seven-person team conducting research on the psychosocial outcomes of infertility through a three-year, 5,000 women panel study. 

He earned a bachelor's degree in religion from Syracuse University and both a master's degree and Ph. D from Rutgers University.	

The Bergren Forum, sponsored by the Alfred University Division of Human Studies and the College of Liberal Arts &amp; Sciences, meets Thursdays during each academic semester at the University.  Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch; coffee and tea will be provided.

	<title>Lecturer to take audience 'inside' historic black fraternities, sororities</title>
	<description>Author of historical text and fiction Lawrence Ross will be the guest lecturer of 'The Divine Nine' on Monday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m., in Nevins Theater, Powell Center on the Alfred University Campus. This program is free to the general public. 

'The Divine Nine' is an honest and inside look at America's historic black fraternities and sororities. 

Ross worked as a reporter for the Los Angeles Independent Newspaper and was managing editor of Rap Sheet magazine. He earned a degree in Fine Arts from UCLA School of Theater, Film and Education in screenwriting. 

Ross was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity in 1997 when he started writing the 'The Divine Nine: The History of African American Fraternities and Sororities.' His is the first book written that covers members of National Pan-Hellenic Council. 

During the last 10 years, Ross has toured and lectured at over 300 college and universities on the topics of hazing and how black fraternities and sororities can fulfill their promises.

Ross has been a guest on television shows, including 'Good Morning Atlanta and National Public Radio, and has been interviewed by 'Essence,' 'Ebony,' and 'Savoy' magazines.

	<title>Asian media specialist to bring knowledge of modern China's industry to AU</title>
	<description>Philip Cunningham, professor of media studies and expert in Asian media, will present 'China Media Inside and Out,' a discussion of the modern media industry in China, on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 8 p.m. in Nevins Theater Powell Campus Center, on the Alfred University campus.

Cunningham is currently a visiting scholar in Asian Studies at Cornell University. Cunningham is fluent in Thai, Japanese, and Mandarin Chinese and has had a distinguished career as a journalist and a teacher. He was named a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University and conducted research on Asian media as Knight International Journalism Fellow. 

Cunningham visited China in 1983 and worked as a tour guide and cruise director for several years before pursuing his journalism career. He has written about Japan and China for over 20 years. 

He is the author of the 2009 book 'Tiananmen Moon,' an eyewitness account of events that took place in Beijing during the 1980s when he resided there. 

Cunningham has been published by American and international news organizations including Japan Times, South China Morning Post, Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, International Herald Tribune and Bangkok Post. 

He has also worked on several film and television productions, including Hollywood blockbusters 'The Last Emperor' and 'Empire of the Sun' and numerous television documentaries such as 'China Now,' 'Changing China,' 'BBC Panorama,' and 'The Gate of Heavenly Peace.'

The Confucius Institute of Alfred University, a partnership begun in 2008 among the University, the Office of the International Chinese Language Council, and China University of Geosciences, is sponsoring 'China Media Inside and Out.' The Confucius Institute promotes Chinese language and culture through education in upstate New York.
