Kristin Beck

Kristin Beck, an A.U. alumna, was honored with a Fiat Lux! award in October of 2016 for her book and a documentary film chronicling her transgender transformation. Kristin served in the U.S. Navy for twenty years as Christopher T. Beck, partaking in 13 deployments, seven of which were combat deployments. She served with the United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU) as well as SEAL Team Six. She is also decorated with numerous military awards, among which are a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.

 

Kristin is the first openly transgender former U.S. Navy SEAL. Her book, Warrior Princess: A U.S. Navy SEAL’s Journey to Coming out Transgender, which she co-wrote with Anne Speckhard, was released in 2013. In 2014, the film Lady Valor: The Kristin Beck Story, was aired on CNN.
