Mask & Light 7/1 - 7/5
High School Institute

With Ola Kraszpulska.
This high school institute covers concepts for creating a theatrically dynamic mask and illustrates it's potential under stage lighting. This exercise is rooted in Aristophanes’ The Birds. After a conversation about the play (synopsis and chosen selections, due to time restrictions), student select a bird character from the play on whom to base a mask design. Students then work together to ensure there is a unified concept around their design ideas. Masks can be executed in a variety of media and cover any portion of the face. Once masks are completed, students select a moment from the play and design a light cue based around their research (from a selected preset, with some LED color options). As a final step of the project, students photograph their look as though it is a production photograph.
All levels, beginners encouraged. Registration opens soon!
