Originally a private residence, the house at 10 Park Street was acquired by the University and used for a variety of purposes, including the Phonathon and the Office of Communications. In 2010, it became the Confucius House, a residence for the instructors affiliated with the Confucius Institute at Alfred University. The Confucius Institute at Alfred University (CIAU) was established in 2008 with the support of the Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban). It is part of an international network of Confucius Institutes dedicated to promoting the study of Chinese language, culture, ethics, and philosophy, and furthers the understanding of China today.
